Rant : Dial-Up
Hey all,
Just trying to keep to my promise of posting something regularly on my journal. And since I didn't really have anything to post, I thought I'd rant.
So, Comic-Con was this past week. Awesome, especially in terms of the New Moon/Twilight stuff, Rob and Kristen's appearances. I should be in my Twilight/Robsten heaven (yes, I'm a shipper, but not hard core....I'd be totally cool with them being really, really good friends). Anyway, like I said, I should be in seventh heaven.
Except.
I'm on dial-up. Yep. I live on a rural stretch of highway in the country where about a good three miles of us live in a sort of triangle that don't have high speed. It's a real bummer and a time waster. Just downloading HQ pictures takes hours as opposed to minutes. Never mind about YouTube.
So when Comic-Con 09 rolled around and I just had to have all the goodies, what did I do? I had to take my (well, I share it with my sister) old Mac laptop (my sister has nicknamed Cranky) to the nearest library with free (thank the gods!) wi-fi, which is about 30 minutes away. It could be worse I guess. It could be an hour away and I could have to pay for it. Still, it's not in my home on my own computer with my own high speed.
I don't know why those of us on this 3 or so mile stretch have no access to high speed. But I'm beginning to feel shit upon. We've been asking for years to get it. There was even a petition passed around. I don't know what the hold up is.
If I stay on at my current job, I think I will try to get the high speed sticks several companies are selling. But it's all contingent on other things too, like getting the house I share with my sister re-roofed.
I still haven't seen all the vids and photos from Comic-Con because of this stupid high speed Bermuda triangle I'm in. I hope to go to the library again this week to download more stuff. But it's such a pain. I want to make some icons out of some of the images but need more. Gah!
Ah...the things I will do for Twilight, Rob and Kristen. So, anyway, that was my rant. I'm not much of a ranter I guess. What about you? DO you have dial-up? Are there other alternatives to cable and DSL besides the internet stick? Let me know. I'm desperate.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
